Bowling Green Man Arrested After Firing Gun Into Air Outside Local Store, Police Say
BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY — A convicted felon is in custody after allegedly firing multiple shots into the air outside a T Mart convenience store in Bowling Green Thursday evening, according to police.
The Bowling Green Police Department (BGPD) confirmed that officers responded to reports of gunfire near Adams Street around 7:45 p.m. Witnesses told authorities they saw a man pull out a handgun and discharge it several times before fleeing the scene.
Police said no injuries were reported, but the situation caused panic among customers and bystanders near the busy commercial area.
Suspect in Custody Following Police Response
According to BGPD Public Information Officer Ronnie Ward, the suspect was located a short time later and taken into custody without further incident.
Ward confirmed that the man fired shots “into the air” and was quickly identified by responding officers based on witness statements and surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
The suspect’s name has not yet been released publicly, but authorities confirmed he is a convicted felon barred from possessing firearms.
Charges Include Wanton Endangerment and Fleeing Police
Police said the man faces multiple charges, including:
- Possession of a handgun by a convicted felon
- First-degree wanton endangerment
- Fleeing or evading police
BGPD officials said the suspect’s reckless behavior could have easily led to tragedy.
“Firing a weapon in a public space — even into the air — endangers lives,” Officer Ward stated. “We’re fortunate no one was injured in this incident.”

Investigators remained on the scene late into the night collecting evidence and reviewing footage from surrounding businesses.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released once charges are formally filed.
Residents in the Adams Street area described the response as “intense but quick,” crediting Bowling Green officers for restoring calm within minutes.
