Kentucky Shooting Sends Bullet Through Child’s Bedroom Wall in Hopkinsville

HOPKINSVILLE, KENTUCKY – A Saturday morning shooting in Hopkinsville sent a bullet through a child’s bedroom wall, narrowly missing the bed and sparking new safety concerns in the community, according to local police.
Bullet Missed Child’s Bed by Inches
The Hopkinsville Police Department told WKDZ Radio that gunfire erupted on Coleman Street, striking two parked vehicles before one round traveled into a nearby home and lodged in the wall above a child’s bed.
Investigators said no one was injured, but the shot came dangerously close to where the child had been sleeping only hours earlier.
“We’re incredibly fortunate this didn’t end in tragedy,” one officer told WKDZ.
Authorities said multiple shell casings were recovered from the roadway.
Gunfire Linked to Nearby Gathering
Police believe the shooting stemmed from a large gathering or party at a building on Walnut Street, just a short distance from where the stray bullet entered the home.
Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots shortly after midnight, followed by vehicles speeding away from the area.
Officers are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting and whether it was connected to an argument or ongoing dispute.
Police Ask for Public’s Help
Hopkinsville police are urging anyone with information or video evidence to contact the Christian County Dispatch Center at 270-890-1300.
Investigators said cooperation from the community is crucial to preventing future incidents like this one.
“Even though no one was hurt, this could have easily been a fatal shooting,” an investigator said. “We need people to come forward.”
