Wisconsin Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Stabbing Woman Inside Logan Square Laundromat

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — A Wisconsin man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stabbing a woman multiple times inside a Logan Square laundromat in 2023, according to Cook County court records.
Luis Lira-Hernandez, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and aggravated battery nearly three years after the violent attack, which left a 25-year-old woman critically injured.
Brutal Attack Inside Chicago Laundromat
The incident occurred in October 2023 at a laundromat located in the 2200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square, Chicago police said.
According to investigators, Lira-Hernandez approached the woman inside the business and stabbed her in the chest and both legs before fleeing the scene. Witnesses called 911, and first responders found the victim in critical condition.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she underwent emergency treatment and survived the attack.
Police described the assault as “unprovoked and extremely violent,” noting that the victim had no prior connection to the suspect.
Arrest and Charges
After months of investigation, Chicago police arrested Lira-Hernandez in March 2024, not far from where the original stabbing occurred. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Detectives said surveillance footage and witness statements linked him directly to the attack.
Court documents show that the case proceeded through multiple hearings before Lira-Hernandez ultimately entered a guilty plea this year.
Sentence and Aftermath
On October 15, 2025, Lira-Hernandez was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He will receive credit for time already served since his 2024 arrest.
Authorities say the conviction provides a measure of closure for the victim, who endured a long recovery following the assault.
Community members and local officials have since praised police for their persistence in solving the case and bringing the perpetrator to justice.
