Louisville Brothers Charged After Fatal Shooting of Sibling at Fern Creek Apartment Complex

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — Two Louisville brothers are behind bars after a fatal shooting early Sunday morning at a Fern Creek apartment complex that left their younger brother dead, according to Louisville Metro Police (LMPD).
Authorities identified the victim as 30-year-old Darryl E. Burnett Jr., who was found shot in the head and right leg at an apartment on Brentlinger Park Drive around 3 a.m. on October 19.
LMPD officers said the victim was rushed to UofL Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Two Brothers Facing Charges After Family Altercation Turns Deadly
Police arrested Darrel R. Burnett, 37, and Kiaira M. Paige, 36, both identified as the victim’s brothers. Burnett is charged with murder, while Paige faces a charge of assault in connection with the deadly confrontation.
Investigators said the violence stemmed from a fight between Paige and Burnett Jr. before gunfire erupted. Paige reportedly told detectives that he shot his brother in the leg during the argument.
Surveillance footage reviewed by detectives confirmed parts of Paige’s statement and showed Darrel Burnett leaving the residence with a rifle, allegedly firing the fatal shot that struck Burnett Jr. in the head.
“The surveillance evidence was consistent with witness accounts of how the fatal shooting unfolded,” LMPD officials said Monday.
Suspects in Custody, Investigation Continues
Both suspects are currently being held at Louisville Metro Corrections as they await arraignment. The LMPD Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the incident to determine what led to the deadly altercation among the brothers.
