Arkansas–Oklahoma Weather: Freeze Warning Ends Sunday as Southern Plains Warm Into the 70s

TULSA, OKLAHOMA — The Southern Plains woke to a frosty chill Sunday morning as the region experienced its first hard freeze of November, but temperatures are expected to rebound quickly under clear skies and warm sunshine heading into the week.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa issued a Freeze Warning in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday, with sub-freezing lows near 31°F recorded across much of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Officials urged residents to protect outdoor pipes and plants, noting that the cold snap would likely end the growing season for many areas.

Morning Freeze Followed by Fast Warm-Up

After the freeze lifts, conditions will improve rapidly as sunshine and a southerly breeze return by late morning. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the low 60s, signaling the start of a brief November warm-up.

“This is a classic early-season swing — a cold start followed by several unseasonably warm days,” said a forecaster with the National Weather Service Tulsa office.

By Monday and Tuesday, highs will climb into the low to mid-70s, nearly 15 degrees above average for early November. Dry air and light winds will make for pleasant afternoons ideal for outdoor work or travel across I-44 and I-40.

Dry, Mild Pattern Holds Through Midweek

The region’s warm, calm stretch will continue through Wednesday, with sunshine and light winds prevailing. By Thursday, slightly stronger southerly gusts could develop ahead of a weak late-week front that may bring a touch of cooler air next weekend — but little to no rainfall is expected.

Meteorologists say the pattern reflects La Niña’s influence, which often brings temperature whiplash to the Southern Plains during early winter.

“This freeze likely won’t be the last,” forecasters cautioned. “Another early-season chill could return before Thanksgiving.”
