INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA — Central Indiana is bracing for a dramatic weather shift this weekend as mild fall temperatures give way to thunderstorms, potential snow showers, and an early blast of Arctic cold that could linger into next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the state’s weather will swing sharply from warm and breezy on Friday to cold and wintry by Sunday evening, signaling that winter is fast approaching the Midwest.
Friday: Warm Start With Thunder and Gusty Winds
Friday morning will begin calm, but clouds will thicken quickly as a developing storm system pushes across the Midwest. Showers and a few isolated thunderstorms are expected between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with temperatures rising into the mid-60s before a strong cold front moves through.

Saturday will bring a short-lived break in the weather with partly sunny skies and highs near 61°F. However, conditions will deteriorate by evening as a secondary front moves in from the northwest, bringing widespread rain late Saturday night.

Sunday: Rain Turns to Snow as Temperatures Plunge
Sunday will start with light rain, quickly changing to a rain-snow mix in areas north of Indianapolis, including Lafayette and Kokomo. While little to no accumulation is expected, slick bridges and grassy coatings could develop before sunrise.
Daytime temperatures will struggle to climb above 41°F, and by nightfall, the mercury could dip into the mid-20s, marking one of the coldest nights of the season so far.
Monday: Arctic Chill Locks In for Veterans Day Week
By Monday, high temperatures will barely reach the upper 30s, and overnight lows will remain well below freezing. The cold pattern is expected to persist through midweek as an Arctic air mass expands across much of the central and eastern United States — stretching from Texas to Maine.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor decorations, check heating systems, and bundle up for Veterans Day events, as brisk winds and clear skies could make it feel even colder.
