Concordia University Pharmacy Student Fatally Shot in Milwaukee; Woman Arrested After Alleged Dispute
MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN — A 26-year-old pharmacy student from Concordia University Wisconsin was fatally shot on Milwaukee’s north side Monday night, and police say a 31-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the killing.
Authorities identified the victim as Ariel Spillner, of Arena, Wisconsin. The shooting occurred around 9:40 p.m. Monday in the 5100 block of North 39th Street, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.
Victim Identified as Concordia University Student
Spillner was a student in the School of Pharmacy at Concordia University Wisconsin, a Lutheran institution based in Mequon.
In a public statement, the university said it was “deeply saddened” by Spillner’s death and urged the community to pray for her family and classmates.
“Our hearts and prayers are with Ariel’s family, friends, classmates, and all who knew and loved her,” Concordia said.
“Counseling and pastoral care are being offered to members of our campus community as we grieve together.”
The school added that the woman arrested was not a student at Concordia.
Police: Second Woman Wounded, Then Taken Into Custody
According to Milwaukee police, a 31-year-old woman was also injured in the shooting. She was later taken into custody, and investigators have referred homicide charges to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
Police have not yet released details on what led to the gunfire or the relationship between the two women.
Community Reacts to Tragic Loss
The shooting has shaken Concordia’s close-knit campus, where students and faculty members described Spillner as hardworking and compassionate. The university’s counseling services remain open for those affected by the tragedy.
Spillner’s death marks yet another instance of gun violence impacting Wisconsin college students this year, following a series of shootings near university neighborhoods across the state.
