Beach Park Man Dies After Being Shot in Suspected Murder-for-Hire Plot, Two Arrested
BEACH PARK, ILLINOIS — A 46-year-old man who was shot outside his Beach Park home last week has died from his injuries, and authorities now say the shooting was part of a murder-for-hire plot that crossed state lines. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday that two suspects — including the alleged gunman and the person who hired him — are now in custody.
Detectives Trace Vehicle Through Surveillance Footage
Investigators said Oscar Ochoa-Tello was shot multiple times around 7 a.m. Wednesday while warming up his car near North Sheridan Road and Kings Way Drive. He was initially rushed to Vista East Medical Center before being airlifted to a trauma center, but he died Saturday from complications of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Sheriff’s detectives immediately began combing through neighborhood surveillance footage, which showed a suspicious vehicle driving slowly in the area shortly before the gunfire. Using license plate reader technology, investigators tracked the car’s registration and identified its owner.
Wisconsin Man Accused of Carrying Out the Shooting
The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Cristian N. Ruval-Cavatorres of Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. He was taken into custody Wednesday following a traffic stop by Mount Pleasant police. Lake County detectives allege that Ruval-Cavatorres was hired to kill Ochoa-Tello as part of a contract arrangement that remains under investigation.
Authorities executed a search warrant at his residence, recovering a firearm believed to have been used in the crime, along with a cellphone allegedly used to communicate with the individual who orchestrated the shooting.
Second Suspect Arrested in North Chicago
On Thursday afternoon, a second person accused of hiring the gunman was taken into custody in North Chicago, officials confirmed. Investigators have not yet released that suspect’s identity or the possible motive behind the attack, citing the ongoing investigation.
Ruval-Cavatorres currently faces charges including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Officials indicated that additional charges could follow as new evidence emerges.
As the Lake County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation, residents of Beach Park remain stunned by the violent plot that claimed a neighbor’s life in what appears to be a calculated, paid killing.
