Two Arrested in Monona After Police Find Stolen Vehicle with Children Inside
MONONA, WISCONSIN — Two people were taken into custody Thursday night after Monona police discovered them in a stolen vehicle with two children inside, according to a police report.
Authorities said the incident unfolded when officers located a suspicious vehicle and approached it, finding an adult male driver, a woman, and two young children inside.
Driver Found with Gun, Drugs, and Parole Hold
The driver, identified as 38-year-old Cordero C. Coker of Madison, was ordered out of the vehicle. A police pat-down revealed a handgun in his pocket, and officers later found marijuana and cocaine during a further search.
Coker was immediately arrested and faces multiple charges, including:
- Felony operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent (stolen auto)
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Possession of cocaine
- Possession of marijuana
- A parole hold through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections
The female passenger was also detained for further questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
Children Safely Returned to Their Mother
Police confirmed that the two children found in the car were unharmed. Their mother was notified and arrived at the scene shortly after, taking them safely home.
Officers also contacted the vehicle’s owner, who was informed that the stolen car had been recovered.
Police Urge Community Vigilance
The Monona Police Department praised the quick response of officers and reminded the public to stay alert for stolen or suspicious vehicles in the area.
“Our officers acted swiftly to ensure the safety of the children and recover the stolen vehicle,” the department said in a statement. “Community awareness and cooperation remain essential in preventing crimes like these.”
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges could be filed as authorities review the evidence.
