Kentucky Woman Found Shot to Death Along Rural Route in Floyd County; State Police Launch Homicide Investigation
FLOYD COUNTY, KENTUCKY — State police are investigating a deadly shooting in the Beaver community after a woman was found unresponsive along a rural stretch of road Friday afternoon.
35-Year-Old Woman Found Dead from Gunshot Wound
According to Kentucky State Police, troopers from the Pikeville Post responded to a call from Prestonsburg 911 around November 21 regarding an unresponsive female on Kentucky Route 979.
When investigators arrived at the 14000 block of Route 979, they discovered 35-year-old Sarah Slone suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
Slone was pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office.
Body Sent for Autopsy as Detectives Search for Answers
Authorities confirmed that Slone’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine additional details surrounding her cause of death.
Detective Dylan Mullins with KSP is leading the case and was assisted by multiple state police personnel at the scene.
As of Saturday evening, no further details have been released, and investigators have not disclosed whether they have identified suspects or motives.

The quiet Beaver community — located just south of Prestonsburg — has been shaken by the sudden violence. Residents say shootings along this rural corridor are rare, prompting even greater concern about what may have led to Slone’s death.
