Smiths Grove Man Arrested After Teen Suffers Facial Fractures and Strangulation Injuries, Deputies Say

SMITHS GROVE, KY — A 35-year-old man is behind bars after deputies say he violently assaulted a 17-year-old who had been living in his home, causing multiple facial fractures and strangulation injuries.

The Barren County Sheriff’s Office responded Friday night after receiving a report that a severely injured teen had been taken by a neighbor to T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Deputies then met with the victim, who detailed the alleged assault involving Michael George, 35, and his fiancée.

Deputies: Teen Suffered Multiple Facial Fractures and Neck Injuries

According to the uniform citation, the teen told authorities they had been staying at George’s residence and had been drinking with him and his fiancée earlier in the evening.

Investigators say the teen reported that George became violent, grabbing them by the throat and inflicting injuries that resulted in multiple fractures to the victim’s face. Deputies documented visible bruising, swelling, and marks around the neck consistent with strangulation.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the teen was transferred to the University of Kentucky Hospital for facial surgery.

Suspect Arrested Upon Returning Home

Authorities say that when Michael George arrived back at the residence, he was immediately taken into custody.

George is currently lodged in the Barren County Detention Center on the following charges:

  • First-degree criminal abuse
  • First-degree strangulation (non-domestic violence)

Deputies have not released additional details regarding potential motives or the condition of George’s fiancée during the incident.

The investigation remains active.
