Georgia Woman Survives After Ex-Boyfriend Allegedly Shoots Her 10 Times and Drives Her Around for Hours Before Taking Her to Hospital
DOUGLASVILLE, GEORGIA — A 23-year-old Georgia woman is recovering after authorities say her ex-boyfriend shot her ten times, then drove her around for several hours while she bled in the passenger seat of her own car. The victim, Shamay Pitt, survived the attack and is now speaking out in hopes of warning others trapped in dangerous relationships.
Investigators Say Meeting with Ex Turned Violent Inside Her Car
According to investigators, Pitt agreed to meet with her former boyfriend, 25-year-old Joshua Woodruff, on Nov. 2. She picked him up, expecting a conversation — but within moments, the situation became life-threatening.
Pitt told detectives that as they began talking, Woodruff allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire inside the vehicle, striking her multiple times. The attack left her disoriented and in shock, but conscious enough to realize what was happening.
She recalled the moment she understood she had been shot:
“My ears were ringing, and suddenly I realized he was shooting at me.”
Despite her injuries, the nightmare had only begun.
Suspect Allegedly Drove Her Across Multiple Georgia Counties While She Bled
Instead of calling for help, Woodruff allegedly took control of Pitt’s car and began driving her across several counties. Investigators say the journey lasted hours, with Pitt severely injured in the passenger seat.
During the ordeal, Pitt said she looked down and realized:
“I saw the inside of me on the outside.”
As her condition worsened, she begged him to let her get help. She recalled pleading:
“Just lay me on the grass so I can breathe. I don’t want to die in this car.”
Authorities say Woodruff eventually drove her to WellStar Douglas Hospital in Douglas County, where hospital security detained him until officers arrived. Due to her critical condition, paramedics transferred Pitt to Kennestone Hospital for emergency surgery.
Charges Upgraded as Investigation Unfolds
Woodruff was initially detained for obstruction but later faced significantly more serious allegations. Investigators upgraded the charges to:
- Aggravated assault
- False imprisonment
Authorities say the violent attack, the extended drive, and the victim’s account support the higher-level charges. Woodruff is being held at the Douglas County Jail on a $10,000 bond, and a scheduled court hearing is pending further review.
The investigation remains active, and additional charges may be considered based on forensic evidence and Pitt’s medical evaluations.
Victim Recovering, Warns Others About Red Flags
Pitt continues to recover from her multiple gunshot wounds, and her family has created a fundraising page to help cover medical expenses during her long recovery.
She says she survived the attack with a renewed mission to warn others about the dangers of ignoring early signs of violence.
Her message is simple:
“If you see that red flag, run away.”
Investigators say her decision to come forward may help others recognize and escape abusive partners before situations escalate.
As Georgia authorities continue to investigate this violent incident, advocates are urging residents to seek help quickly if they sense danger in a relationship. For more updates on major criminal investigations, survivor stories, and breaking public safety news, visit ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
