Snow, Sleet, and Freezing Rain Threaten Hazardous Travel Along Kentucky’s I-64 Corridor Late Monday Into Tuesday Morning

JACKSON, KY — The National Weather Service in Jackson is alerting residents that a dangerous mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected to move across central and eastern Kentucky late Monday night, bringing hazardous travel conditions along the heavily traveled I-64 corridor from Lexington to Morehead and Ashland.

Wintry Mix Expected to Create Slick Roads Overnight

Forecasters say precipitation will begin as a mix of snow, freezing rain, and sleet Monday evening, with conditions deteriorating quickly overnight.
Areas along and north of Interstate 64 are expected to receive the highest snow amounts and the worst road impacts.

Untreated roads, bridges, and elevated surfaces may become icy, making the Tuesday morning commute especially treacherous for drivers.

Heaviest Impacts Likely Near Lexington, Morehead, and Ashland

The NWS highlights the I-64 line as the primary zone for the most hazardous conditions, where accumulating snow could leave portions of the highway snow-covered and slick before sunrise.

Communities stretching from Lexington to Ashland are urged to use caution and consider delaying travel if possible.

South of I-64, precipitation may begin as rain before transitioning to snow Tuesday morning. Accumulations in those areas are expected to stay under one inch, though overpasses and grassy surfaces may still become slippery as temperatures fall.

Cold Temperatures Will Allow Ice and Snow to Stick Quickly

Even minor snowfall can result in dangerous conditions when combined with overnight freezing temperatures. Drivers should prepare for rapidly changing road conditions, reduced visibility, and black ice formation.

Residents are encouraged to check for additional NWS advisories and road condition updates throughout the night.

If you live or travel along I-64 and notice worsening road conditions, share updates with your community — ChicagoMusicGuide.com will continue following weather alerts affecting Kentucky and surrounding regions.
