LADYSMITH, WISCONSIN — A 28-year-old elementary school teacher has been arrested following allegations that she engaged in inappropriate contact with a 15-year-old student, including sending an explicit image over social media, according to the Ladysmith Police Department.
Complaint Filed After School District Alerts Police
On December 1, 2025, Ladysmith School District officials contacted police to report concerns about a 2nd grade teacher allegedly communicating inappropriately with a high school student. The district immediately placed the teacher on leave pending further investigation.
Police interviewed the student, who said the contact began during the summer of 2025 and occurred through social media. The student reported that the teacher sent her an explicit image of herself during one of their conversations.
Teacher Allegedly Confessed During Interview
On December 4, investigators interviewed the teacher, identified as Kayla A. Vavra, 28, of Ladysmith. According to police, Vavra admitted to the allegations, including sending the explicit image to the minor.
She was arrested and booked into the Rusk County Jail on charges of:
- Exposing a Child to Harmful Material
- Intimidation of a Victim
Authorities say the investigation remains active as police and school officials work together to ensure student and staff safety.
District and Police Emphasize Student Protection
In a statement, Chief Kevin G. Julien said both the police department and the school district are continuing to coordinate closely as the case progresses. No additional victims have been identified at this time.
Per Wisconsin Supreme Court guidelines, officials noted that all charges are accusations, and Vavra is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
