Alabama Singer Pynk Beard Earns a Standing Ovation on America’s Got Talent After Closing the Quarterfinals With Original Song on My Hood
LOS ANGELES, CA — Alabama singer-songwriter Pynk Beard turned the end of Tuesday’s “America’s Got Talent” episode into a defining moment, drawing a standing ovation for an original performance that left him visibly emotional. The Birmingham native, who also performs as Sebastian Kole, wrapped the NBC competition’s quarterfinals with “On My Hood,” a song he released as a single in late August.
By the time he finished, Beard was thanking the judges and crowd through tears of gratitude. The reaction suggested that the song connected with the live audience, even though the voting outcome would not be known until Wednesday’s results episode. If viewers send him through, he will advance to the semifinals on Sept. 15 as one of 12 remaining acts in Season 21.
Judges praise a performer who has already spent years behind the scenes
Mel B, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel and guest judge Kenan Thompson responded with the kind of praise reality-competition performers dream about. Thompson told Beard and his band they “blew the roof off” the place, while urging viewers to vote. Mel B said his performance won her over even though country is not usually her genre, calling it “brilliant.”
Vergara described him as a seasoned performer with a powerful voice and a strong song, and Mandel framed the moment as a payoff years in the making. He pointed out that Beard had spent much of his career helping create hits for other artists before stepping into the spotlight himself. “You are a star,” Mandel said, capturing the tone of a panel that seemed eager to see him move on.
From Birmingham roots to a country turn on network TV
Beard’s TV run has also served as a reintroduction to a career that stretches far beyond one song. Born Coleridge Tillman, he grew up in Birmingham’s Dolomite neighborhood as the son of a Pentecostal preacher, sang with the Birmingham Boys Choir and later graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in music technology.
He later moved to Los Angeles, signed with EP Entertainment and Motown as Sebastian Kole, and earned songwriting credits for artists including Alessia Cara, Alicia Keys, John Legend and Jennifer Lopez. He released albums and an EP under that name before launching the Pynk Beard persona in 2025 with the country project “Red Dirt Diaries.”
What comes next for Pynk Beard and the AGT field
Tuesday’s episode ended with Beard positioned as one of the night’s most talked-about acts, but his future on the show depends on the public vote revealed Wednesday. A successful result would keep him in contention for the next round and move him one step closer to the Season 21 finals.
The appearance comes during a busy stretch in his career. Earlier this year, Kole received an Emmy nomination for “The Devil You Know,” a song featured in the Prime Video series “Spider-Noir,” where he shared the Outstanding Music & Lyrics nod with Warren Oak Felder and Daniel Pemberton. On “AGT,” though, the immediate question is simpler: whether a performance that moved the judges can also move enough viewers.
