Arizona Teen Sentenced to Prison for Brutal Attack on Girlfriend After Jealous Rage

PHOENIX, ARIZONA — A 16-year-old boy from Arizona will spend several years behind bars after a violent assault on his teenage girlfriend, whom he beat, strangled, and threatened to kill during a jealous outburst earlier this year.

Troy Aguilar-Olmos, who was 15 at the time of the attack, was sentenced to 3½ years in a state correctional facility by Maricopa County Superior Judge Tracy R. Nadzieja on Wednesday. Aguilar-Olmos pleaded guilty as an adult to two counts of aggravated assault with domestic violence.

Attack Followed Threats to “Shoot and Kill” Victim

According to prosecutors with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, the assault occurred in March 2025 after Aguilar-Olmos became enraged when his girlfriend refused to come out of her home to speak with him.

Authorities said the teenager threatened to “shoot and kill” the victim if she didn’t come outside. When she eventually stepped out, he strangled her, pointed a gun at her back, and repeatedly punched her.

The brutal beating only ended when the victim’s sister’s boyfriend intervened and managed to wrestle the gun away from Aguilar-Olmos, prosecutors said.

“What happened to this young woman is heartbreaking,” said Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “No relationship should ever be marked by fear or violence, no matter the age of the offender. Today’s outcome cannot undo her trauma, but it is a step toward justice.”

Teen Continued Threats From Jail

Even after his arrest, Aguilar-Olmos allegedly continued threatening the victim and her family through a series of phone calls made from jail.

In one recorded call, he warned her against speaking to other men:

“If you think that because I’m in jail I can’t do anything, my queen, you are wrong,” Aguilar-Olmos reportedly said in Spanish. “When I get out of here, if I find out about something, watch out.”

He also threatened to burn down a restaurant out of jealousy, according to investigators.

“They’re trying to get me mad,” he allegedly said in one call. “If I find out something going on in there, I’m going to burn the whole restaurant down.”

Judge Credits Time Served but Condemns Violence

Judge Nadzieja credited Aguilar-Olmos with 87 days of time already served but emphasized that his behavior was “deeply disturbing” and showed a pattern of control and intimidation.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said the sentence reflects a strong stance against domestic violence, especially involving teenage victims.

Aguilar-Olmos was taken into custody shortly after the incident at his parents’ home and will serve his time in a state correctional facility before becoming eligible for supervised release.
