Armed Intruder Breaks Into Wauwatosa Apartment, Shoots Two Men and Injures Another While Fleeing, Police Say

WAUWATOSA, WISCONSIN — Authorities are investigating an early-morning shooting at a Wauwatosa apartment complex after an armed intruder forced entry and opened fire, injuring three people, police confirmed Wednesday.

Officers with the Wauwatosa Police Department responded just after 1:30 a.m. to the Reserve Apartments near 61st and State Streets following multiple reports of gunfire.

Gunfire Erupts After Forced Entry

Police said the suspect forced entry into an occupied apartment before firing several rounds. Two men inside were hit by gunfire, and a third man was hurt while trying to escape through another exit.

All three victims were taken to a local hospital and are in stable condition, according to police. Investigators believe the attack was targeted, not random, though the motive remains under investigation.

Witnesses Describe Late-Night Chaos

Residents of the Reserve complex reported being startled by gunshots and sirens echoing through the night.

“I woke up to pounding on doors and saw police with flashlights moving through the parking lot,” one neighbor said. “It was shocking—this is normally a quiet area.”

Police quickly established a perimeter, searching nearby buildings and parking areas for the suspect.

Investigation Still Active

As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests have been made. Officers are asking anyone with Ring camera footage or surveillance video from the area to contact the Wauwatosa Police Investigative Division at 414-471-8430.

Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the community, but additional patrols are being conducted around the apartment complex and surrounding neighborhoods.

Community Concerns Over Violence

The incident marks another act of gun violence in Milwaukee County this month. Residents and city officials continue to call for stronger neighborhood watch efforts and expanded safety measures for apartment communities.
