Bardstown Man Killed After Ramming Deputy’s Cruiser and Firing at Officers, Kentucky State Police Say
BARDSTOWN, KENTUCKY — A 37-year-old Bardstown man was killed Monday afternoon after allegedly ramming a deputy’s cruiser and opening fire on officers during a pursuit in Nelson County, according to the Kentucky State Police (KSP).
Authorities identified the man as Terry Carney Jr., who reportedly began shooting outside his father’s home before leading deputies on a chase that ended in an exchange of gunfire.
Father’s 911 Call Leads to Deadly Encounter
The incident began around 3:45 p.m. Monday, when Carney’s father called 911, reporting that his son was firing a weapon in a threatening manner at his residence. Deputies from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find Carney had already fled the scene in his truck.
When officers attempted to stop him, Carney allegedly rammed a deputy’s cruiser, prompting an officer to fire at the vehicle. Carney then sped away, and deputies initiated a pursuit through the 400 block of Woodlawn Road.
Gunfire Exchanged, Suspect Killed
According to KSP, Carney exited his truck holding a firearm and began shooting at deputies. Officers returned fire, striking Carney and causing fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that no deputies were injured, and an autopsy will be conducted by the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.
