Blount County Traffic Stop Leads to Hoax Bomb Scare and Firearms Arrests

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. – What began as a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into a multi-agency response Tuesday evening after troopers discovered firearms and what appeared to be an explosive device inside a vehicle.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the stop occurred just before 5 p.m. on Alcoa Highway near the I-140 interchange when a Knoxville District trooper pulled a car over for a traffic violation. During the encounter, the trooper noticed an object resembling a bomb and immediately called for backup.
Multi-Agency Response to Suspected Explosive
The discovery prompted a swift response from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Alcoa Police Department.
Technicians later determined the device was a hoax bomb, though it was collected for further analysis. Authorities stressed the seriousness of the situation, given the risks posed when suspicious items are discovered during traffic stops.
Firearms Found Inside Vehicle
In addition to the hoax device, troopers uncovered three firearms inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as a convicted felon, was arrested and now faces state charges related to both the weapons and the false device.
A female passenger was also taken into custody in connection with the hoax device. Officials did not immediately release their names, pending further legal proceedings.
Ongoing Investigation
The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed the investigation remains active. Authorities praised the coordination of local and federal agencies for securing the scene and protecting public safety during the tense incident.
Community members in Blount County expressed concern but relief that the object turned out to be a hoax and that law enforcement acted swiftly to prevent potential harm.
As the investigation continues, officials are reminding the public that hoax devices and illegal firearms possession are taken extremely seriously under both state and federal law. For more crime updates and safety news across the region, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
