Buckner Man Faces Felony After Giving False ID to Frankfort Police

FRANKFORT, Kentucky — A Buckner man is facing felony charges after police say he gave officers a false identity during a confrontation in a Walmart parking lot Friday night.

Argument Leads to Arrest

According to an arrest citation, officers were at the Leonardwood Drive Walmart on an unrelated call when they spotted two people yelling inside a pickup truck.

One of them, identified as Wilson Cunigan, was reportedly trying to cut another person’s debit cards. When asked to step out and identify himself, Cunigan allegedly gave officers someone else’s personal information.

False ID and Drug Possession

The officer noted that Cunigan was “adamant” the false name was his, even after being warned about lying.

A search later revealed Cunigan’s true ID hidden in his wallet, along with:

  • A pack of rolling papers
  • A blue tin containing opiates
  • A small package of marijuana found in the vehicle

Charges Filed

Cunigan is charged with:

  • Theft of identity of another without consent (Class D felony)
  • Second-degree possession of a controlled substance (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Giving false identifying information to an officer (Class B misdemeanor)
  • Possession of marijuana (Class B misdemeanor)

He was also served with a parole violation warrant.

Bail and Detention

Cunigan is being held at the Franklin County Regional Jail on a $10,000 full-cash bond.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to review Cunigan’s parole status and additional evidence.
