Carpentersville Traffic Update: Route 31 Closed in Both Directions After Crash Investigation

CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS — Morning commuters faced major traffic delays Thursday after a crash prompted a full closure of Route 31 in both directions.

According to the Village of Carpentersville Public Safety Department, the closure began early Thursday near Gentle Breeze Terrace, with police blocking traffic between Miller Road and Lincoln Avenue as investigators worked at the scene.

Police Advise Drivers to Find Alternate Routes

Officials said the roadway will remain closed until further notice while officers conduct an investigation into the collision. Both northbound and southbound lanes are shut down, with traffic being redirected through nearby neighborhoods.

Drivers should expect heavy congestion and extended delays, particularly during the late-morning commute.

“Please avoid the area and follow the directions of officers managing traffic,” the department said in a statement. “The roadway will reopen as soon as the investigation is complete.”

Crash Investigation Continues

As of Thursday afternoon, police had not released information about the cause of the crash or whether any injuries occurred. Multiple emergency crews responded to the scene, and cleanup operations are still underway.

Authorities are urging residents to monitor the Village of Carpentersville’s official social media pages for updates as the situation develops.

Travel Advisory

Motorists traveling along Route 31 or heading toward Dundee and Algonquin are advised to use alternate routes and exercise caution when driving through detour areas.

Police have not provided a reopening timeline but expect partial lane access to resume once investigators clear the scene.
