Chicago Police Investigating Weekend Shootings That Claimed Four Lives and Injured Nine Others

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — At least four people were killed and nine others wounded in shootings across Chicago over the weekend, according to the Chicago Police Department. Victims ranged in age from 1 to 63 years old, as violence continued to impact multiple neighborhoods from South Shore to Englewood.

Police said the shootings began late Friday evening and continued through early Monday morning.

Friday Night Shootings

Around 10 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the 7100 block of South Jeffery Boulevard in South Shore, where a 43-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his upper back. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Minutes later, another shooting in Englewood left a 36-year-old man dead after being shot in the neck and head. Witnesses told police the suspect got out of a white sedan, fired several rounds, and fled the scene.

At 10:09 p.m., police found a 37-year-old man shot in the chest inside a vehicle near South Lowe Avenue in Auburn Gresham. He was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center. Authorities believe multiple offenders were involved in that attack.

Saturday Violence Spreads Across Multiple Neighborhoods

Shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old woman was struck in the arm by gunfire while traveling in a vehicle on South Morgan Street. Police said the shots were fired from a white SUV, and the woman’s condition was not disclosed.

Later that morning, around 11:15 a.m., a 27-year-old man was shot in the knee during a brief confrontation with suspects in a dark-colored SUV near West 25th Street. He was hospitalized in good condition.

The most heartbreaking incident occurred at 2:08 p.m., when a 1-year-old boy was shot in the right leg near South Yates Boulevard. He was rushed to the University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Hours later, around 5:49 p.m., two men — ages 25 and 63 — were killed after confronting an armed robber outside a jewelry store on West 26th Street. Both victims were pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Sunday Shootings Continue Across the South and West Sides

The violence continued into early Sunday morning. A 28-year-old man was grazed by a bullet while riding in a car on South Western Avenue, while another 27-year-old man was shot and robbed near West Fullerton Avenue.

Just after 3:30 a.m., a 29-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds while driving on West Chicago Avenue. Hours later, a 20-year-old man walked into a hospital with a gunshot wound to the foot, telling police he couldn’t recall where he had been shot.

By Sunday afternoon, another shooting occurred near South Kedzie Avenue, where a 22-year-old man was struck in the leg but managed to drive himself to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Investigation Ongoing

Police said no arrests have been made in connection with the weekend shootings. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and working to identify suspects in each case.

Community leaders continue to call for calm and stronger violence prevention efforts as the city faces another violent weekend.
