CARY, Illinois — A young child is in critical condition after being run over by an industrial-style lawnmower in Cary on Saturday afternoon, according to fire officials.

Emergency Response on Kristy Lane

The Cary Fire Protection District was called to the 28700-block of West Kristy Lane around 12:40 p.m. after reports of a child being struck.

When paramedics arrived, they found the child with a severe leg injury. A neighbor had already applied a makeshift tourniquet before first responders reached the scene.

Airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center

The child was first taken to the Mercyhealth Hospital – Crystal Lake helipad, where a medical helicopter was waiting. He was then airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition, officials said.

Investigation Underway

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities have not yet released the child’s identity, age, or additional details.

The incident has shaken the Cary community, with residents expressing concern and prayers for the child’s recovery. Officials are reminding the public about the dangers of industrial and riding lawn equipment, especially when children are nearby.
