Coffee County, Georgia Under Flood Warning as Up to 5 Inches of Rain Hits, More Showers Possible Through Afternoon

COFFEE COUNTY, GEORGIA — Heavy rain drenched portions of Coffee County early Friday morning, prompting a Flash Flood Warning from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville as storms produced up to 5 inches of rain across the region.

The warning remains in effect until 12:15 p.m., with meteorologists warning that another inch of rain may fall before the system moves out later today.

Flash Flooding Threatens Roads and Neighborhoods

According to Doppler radar estimates, 2 to 5 inches of rain had already fallen across parts of west-central Coffee County, including the Ambrose area, by late morning.

Officials say flooding is likely in low-lying and poor drainage areas, as well as small creeks, urban zones, and underpasses, where water levels have rapidly risen overnight.

“Flooding is possible on area roads and local highways,” NWS meteorologists warned. “Drivers should avoid travel until conditions improve.”

Residents in flood-prone neighborhoods are advised to move valuables to higher ground and avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.

‘Turn Around, Don’t Drown’ Warning Issued

Authorities reminded residents that most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles, emphasizing the critical “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” safety message.

“Even shallow flooding can be life-threatening,” NWS officials noted. “Never attempt to cross a flooded roadway.”

Localized flooding may also impact creeks, drainage ditches, and farmland across Coffee County and nearby areas if rainfall continues into the afternoon.
