Escaped Kentucky Inmates Arrested After Stealing Tennessee Vehicle

BELL COUNTY, Kentucky — Two inmates who escaped from the Bell County Forestry Camp last week have been captured in Anderson County after allegedly stealing a vehicle with Tennessee license plates.

The Escape

According to the Kentucky State Police, the inmates — identified as Billy Potter and Steven Spencer — escaped from the minimum-security prison camp on the night of Monday, August 25.

Authorities launched a multi-county search in the days following, warning residents to remain vigilant.

Capture in Anderson County

On Saturday, August 30, around 4 p.m., troopers received reports of a stolen vehicle with Tennessee tags. A traffic stop was initiated shortly afterward, and Potter and Spencer were taken into custody without incident.

What’s Next

Both men are now facing additional charges related to the escape and vehicle theft. They will be returned to the custody of the Kentucky Department of Corrections as the investigation continues.

The arrests bring relief to communities across Bell and Anderson counties, where residents had been on high alert since the escape.
