GRACE KIM is a soul R&B dedicated singer-songwriter based in London. She and her trio band met each other at Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts(LIPA) and have been exploring musical fusion rooted in Neo-soul. With a blend of jazz elements Grace Kim’s music resembles Esperanza Spalding to Gretchen Parlato. However, a sprinkling of the Kate Bush eccentricity on her songwriting sets a very unique tone to the music. Accompanied by the tightly crafted band performance, her storytelling gets expressed through the soaring vocal virtuosity.
She started to get recognised by performing at many beloved festivals in Northwest such as Liverpool Soulfest 2016, Threshold Festival 2017, Oxjam Festival and Liverpool International Music Festival 2017 (LIMF). Also her first single ‘No One’ was featured by BBC Introducing in 2016
At the age 11, she started to write her own songs and was trained as a classical music composer in one of the top universities in South Korea, Sookmyung Women’s University. Since 2010, she began to perform in Seoul and other cities in South Korea for local festivals and television appearances such as KBS TV and MBC and was awarded Weekly Popularity Award by MBC Radio. After few years of singer-songwriter period, she switched her career as a gospel singer in 2013 by winning the Gold prize at The 16th Korea Gospel Singer Competition. Touring Korea for the ministry concerts for a while, she finally decided to move her country and to come over to the UK for further study at LIPA.
In the UK, GRACE KIM formed her band with Adam Fairclough and Robyn Wilkinson and released the debut single ‘No One’ in 2016. It was followed by the three remixes from emerging producers around Liverpool. The single and the remix albums are available at any UK music platform. She was featured in a live music festival The 2ube Xtra Music Festival in 2017, which was aired via Made In Liverpool TV, Latest TV(Brighton) and NVTV(Belfast). Her recent track ‘I Don’t Wanna Leave’ was exclusively uploaded on SoundCloud. It awarded her The Best R&B/Soul Song from The Akademia Music Awards in 2017.
Moving her base to London, Grace Kim has been working closely with Hot Vox and Live & Love Music. and was featured in Ben TV (Sky 182) along with several local radios such as Time 107.5. She recently started to study at Institute of Contemporary Music Performance(ICMP) for her further research in music performance while actively gigging and preparing her new release in 2018 which truly represents her current music style. Her new acoustic series has started in November 2017 alongside with Grace Kim band’s regular concerts in Northwest England and London area.
