Florida Woman Accused of Killing Man, Hiding His Body Under Holiday Inn Bed, and Emptying His Bank Account

MIAMI, FLORIDA — A 39-year-old Florida woman has been arrested after police say she killed a man inside a Holiday Inn hotel room, hid his body under the bed, and then drained his bank account to zero dollars in the days following the murder.

According to a criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime, Elizabeth Hernandez is charged with first-degree murder, grand theft, and fraudulent use of a credit card in connection with the death of Jason Anderson, whose body was discovered by a maintenance worker inside a Holiday Inn Express near Miami International Airport.

Maintenance Worker Made Gruesome Discovery

Police said Anderson, 40, checked into the hotel on June 19, 2024, with Hernandez and a man identified as Yoan Guzman-Zequeira, 41. The group was captured on hotel surveillance video entering the property together, but only Hernandez and Guzman-Zequeira were seen leaving the next day.

“The victim’s body was discovered by a maintenance employee who responded to repair a telephone line situated behind the hotel bed,” the complaint stated. “Upon inspection, the employee found the victim’s body underneath the bed and called 911.”

When investigators arrived, they found blood stains on the hallway wall and bathroom door frame, as well as signs of a violent struggle inside the room. An autopsy later determined that Anderson had blunt force trauma, lacerations, and bite marks, along with neck hemorrhaging consistent with homicidal violence.

Surveillance Footage Showed Suspects Leaving With Bags

Investigators say Hernandez and Guzman-Zequeira were caught on video leaving the hotel with several bags, including a clear plastic one containing sheets and towels. Guzman-Zequeira was seen wearing different clothing than when he arrived, possibly items belonging to the victim.

After allegedly hiding Anderson’s body under the bed, Hernandez is accused of using his debit card to withdraw cash and make purchases, emptying his account of approximately $6,000.

Authorities say the pair visited Casino Miami shortly after the killing, where they met a third person who later told police they all returned to the hotel.

“[The witness] stated that upon entering the room it was completely dirty and in disarray,” the complaint said. “He became uncomfortable and left the property immediately.”

The witness’s statements were later corroborated by hotel surveillance footage reviewed by investigators.

Police Link Hernandez to Murder, Financial Theft

Police say the evidence shows Hernandez brutally beat, bit, and slashed Anderson before concealing his body. The motive, investigators allege, was financial gain, as she went on to fraudulently deplete his bank account.

“She left the victim’s account with zero dollars,” detectives wrote in the complaint.

Both Hernandez and Guzman-Zequeira were identified through hotel security footage and financial records. While Hernandez is in custody, Guzman-Zequeira has not been arrested or charged as of Tuesday.

Ongoing Investigation and Jail Status

Hernandez was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, where she is being held without bond.

Authorities continue to investigate Guzman-Zequeira’s involvement and have not ruled out additional arrests. The incident has shocked local residents and hotel staff, who described the discovery as “deeply disturbing.”
