Germantown Stabbing Suspect Extradited to Wisconsin After Indiana Police Chase

GERMANTOWN, WISCONSIN — A man accused of brutally stabbing a Germantown woman this summer has been extradited back to Wisconsin after his arrest in Indiana, where he was captured following a police chase and crash.

Suspect Appears in Court Facing Attempted Homicide Charges

Court records confirm that 39-year-old Melvin Hintson-Reed made his initial appearance in Washington County Court on Nov. 19, where a judge set his bond at $2 million.

Hintson-Reed is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and physical abuse of a child, stemming from a violent stabbing that left a mother gravely injured and her teenage daughter hurt.

15-Year-Old Alerts Police After Finding Mother Bleeding

The stabbing unfolded on June 15, when Germantown officers were called to an apartment on Legend Avenue, just south of Catskill Lane.

When police arrived, a 15-year-old girl met them outside and told officers that her mother was bleeding inside the home.

The 41-year-old woman was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the teen was taken to Children’s Wisconsin to be treated for her own injuries.

Investigators quickly pieced together evidence pointing to Hintson-Reed as the suspected attacker.

Arrest in Indiana After Chase and Crash

Following the stabbing, police issued an alert for Hintson-Reed. Weeks later, law enforcement located him in Gary, Indiana, where a pursuit began.

According to officials, Hintson-Reed fled from officers and eventually crashed before being taken into custody. He remained in Indiana until extradition paperwork was completed.

He is now back in Wisconsin to face charges.

Prosecutors Seek Lengthy Penalties

Washington County prosecutors formally charged Hintson-Reed with:
