Gunman Charged With Murder After Deadly Shooting at New Hampshire Country Club Wedding
NASHUA, N.H. — A wedding celebration turned tragic at the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua on Saturday night when a gunman opened fire, killing one person and injuring two others before being subdued and arrested.
Victim Identified
Officials identified the victim as Robert Steven DeCesare, 59, of Salem, New Hampshire. DeCesare was shot during the attack and later pronounced dead, according to Attorney General John Formella and Nashua Police Chief Kevin Rourke.
Two other people were wounded, though their conditions have not yet been released.
Suspect Arrested
Authorities identified the shooter as Hunter Nadeau, 23, who has been charged with second-degree murder for knowingly shooting DeCesare.
Investigators said additional charges are likely for the other shooting victims. Nadeau is expected to be arraigned Monday in Ninth Circuit Court, Nashua District Division.
Chaotic Scene at Wedding
Witnesses described a scene of panic inside the country club restaurant, adjacent to where the wedding was taking place.
Tom Bartelson, who attended the wedding, said:
“Getting together for a dance for the bride and groom and then all chaos went off. We heard about six shots and everybody ducked for cover.”
Guests said the suspect shouted “free Palestine” and “the children are safe” before opening fire.
Wedding DJ Michael Homewood credited a guest who struck the gunman with a chair, preventing further carnage.
“He probably saved a bunch of lives just doing that,” Homewood said.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities said there is no known connection between Nadeau and DeCesare, and a motive remains unclear. Early reports of multiple shooters were dismissed, with investigators confirming that only one person carried out the attack.
Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess urged calm and expressed faith in police to bring justice, adding:
“No matter how unlikely it seems, it can happen where you live.”
