Indiana 7-day-old Baby Boy Killed in Family Dog Attack at Markle Home

MARKLE, Ind. — A 7-day-old baby boy was fatally attacked by his family’s dog inside a northeastern Indiana home, authorities confirmed. The tragic incident happened Thursday evening in Markle, a small town about 25 miles southeast of Fort Wayne, according to the Kansas City Star.

Infant Identified

The newborn was identified as Jason A. Weaver. Officials with the Huntington County Coroner’s Office said he suffered multiple blunt force traumatic injuries in the attack.

“Jason was in critical condition when police arrived, and he later died at a hospital due to his injuries,” the coroner’s office reported.

The coroner has ruled the death an accident.

Details of the Attack

Officers with the Markle Police Department responded to a 911 call just after 6 p.m. on September 4. The family’s dog, described as a 5-year-old husky and pit bull mix, was responsible for the attack.

“The dog had no prior history of violence reported to police,” according to a report from WPTA-TV.

Community Shock

Markle residents expressed heartbreak at the news, especially given the child’s young age. Officials urged families to exercise caution with pets around newborns and small children.

“This was a devastating accident, and our thoughts are with the Weaver family during this time of unimaginable loss,” a local law enforcement spokesperson said.

The tragic death of Jason Weaver underscores the importance of pet safety and supervision around infants. For more community news and safety updates, visit ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
