Indiana Man Sentenced After Kidnapping Girlfriend, Firing Gunshots, and Abandoning Child at Gas Station
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — An Indiana man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison, with two years suspended, after a violent kidnapping spree that stretched from Elkhart to Indianapolis. Authorities confirmed that Dhantori Honorable pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges, including kidnapping, firearm possession, and domestic violence.
Crime Spree Begins in Elkhart
The case dates back to January 17, 2024, when Honorable allegedly shot his 61-year-old grandfather in Elkhart, a charge for which he is still awaiting trial. Shortly after, prosecutors said he forced his girlfriend and her two children — a seven-year-old girl and a seven-month-old baby — into a car at gunpoint.
During the drive, Honorable reportedly struck his girlfriend repeatedly and fired his handgun at least 30 times while traveling toward Indianapolis. The escalating violence left his victims terrified and police scrambling to locate him.
Harrowing Events at Gas Stations
Once in Indianapolis, the ordeal intensified. Honorable allegedly demanded his girlfriend enter a gas station to buy alcohol and cigarillos, at one point instructing her to “sell herself” to obtain money.
The situation became even more alarming when he attempted to throw the baby from a car seat and tried pulling the seven-year-old from the vehicle through a window. Unable to remove her, Honorable pointed a gun at the child’s head and fired — narrowly missing.
At one stop, he ordered the mother to abandon her daughter at a gas station, leaving the child sobbing in the parking lot. The mother returned moments later, managing to briefly regain control and retrieve her daughter.
Stolen Vehicle and Escalation
After forcing his girlfriend to drive him to a Chase bank, she eventually sped off to safety, leaving Honorable behind. But the danger wasn’t over.
Honorable soon appeared at the home of an ex-girlfriend, where he fired 11 rounds through the door in a further act of violence. Luckily, no one inside was injured. Police eventually found the abandoned seven-year-old at the gas station, who reunited with her mother in an emotional scene.
Honorable later arrived at the site in a stolen van, telling officers, “I’ll die before I tell you who I am.”
Arrest and Sentencing
After resisting arrest — kicking and fighting with officers — Honorable was subdued with arm and leg restraints. In Marion County Court on September 10, 2025, he was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for charges including:
- Kidnapping with a deadly weapon
- Kidnapping a child under 14
- Domestic battery in front of a child
- Domestic battery of a child
- Criminal recklessness
- Unlawful possession of a firearm by a violent felon
- Auto theft
- Resisting law enforcement
Two years of the sentence were suspended, though Honorable still faces additional charges related to the Elkhart shooting.
This harrowing case highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence, kidnapping, and firearm crimes. It also underscores the importance of swift law enforcement action and community awareness.
