Jacksonville Police Seek Suspect After Storage Unit Burglary; Crime Stoppers Offering Cash Reward for Tips
JACKSONVILLE, ILLINOIS — Police in Jacksonville are asking for the public’s help identifying those responsible for a burglary at a local storage unit earlier this month that resulted in the theft of valuable tools and equipment.
According to the Jacksonville Police Department, the burglary occurred sometime between 6 p.m. on November 3 and 9 a.m. on November 4 at a storage facility located in the 900 block of East Morton Avenue.
Investigators say that during the break-in, the suspect or suspects removed several items, including a red toolbox filled with various tools and an AC Delco 3½-ton floor jack. Authorities believe the storage unit may have been specifically targeted for its valuable contents.
Police and Crime Stoppers Urge Community Assistance
The Crime Stoppers of Morgan, Scott & Cass Counties is assisting police in the investigation and is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
Anyone with knowledge of the burglary — or any suspicious activity seen in the area that night — is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (217) 243-7300.
Tipsters can also submit information online at morganscottcrimestoppers.com or by texting 274637 (CRIMES) with the word “payout” as the first message.
Anonymous Tips Could Lead to Cash Rewards
Crime Stoppers reminds residents that all tips are handled confidentially, and those providing information can remain anonymous while still qualifying for a cash payout if the information leads to an arrest.
Police continue to encourage local residents and business owners to review their security footage from the evening of November 3 for any signs of unusual activity in the area near East Morton Avenue.
Community Urged to Stay Vigilant
Authorities are using this case to remind residents about securing garages, sheds, and storage units — particularly during overnight hours.
Small but valuable items like tools, jacks, and construction equipment remain common targets for local burglars, police said, adding that strong locks, cameras, and lighting are key deterrents.
Anyone who recognizes the stolen items or has further information about this case is encouraged to reach out immediately.
