Kentucky Police Seek Public’s Help to Identify ‘Mr. X’ Found Dead in 1982

RYLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY — The Kenton County Police Department is asking for the public’s help to finally identify a man whose body was discovered more than four decades ago in a wooded area of Locust Pike Park.
The unidentified man, long referred to as “Mr. X,” was found dead in November 1982 near the north end of the park in Ryland Heights, located in northern Kentucky. Despite years of investigation, his identity remains unknown.
Details About ‘Mr. X’ and What Police Know So Far
According to investigators, the man was believed to be between 60 and 70 years old, stood 5-foot-7, and weighed approximately 147 pounds.
Police say “Mr. X” had several distinct tattoos that could help in identifying him:
- “M.H.” on his upper right arm
- “Helen” on his lower left arm
- Possibly “Mother” on his lower right arm
He was wearing a plaid button-up shirt, blue pants, and worn shoes. Officers also found a pair of glasses nearby.
Despite these identifying marks, efforts to match him to missing persons records or dental data over the years have not succeeded.
Renewed Efforts to Solve the Cold Case
The Kenton County Police Department recently revived the case, hoping that advances in forensic technology and renewed public awareness might bring in new leads.
Investigators have shared an age estimate, detailed physical description, and photos of some recovered items in the hope that someone recognizes the tattoos or clothing.
Anyone with information — no matter how small — is urged to come forward.
“After 43 years, this man still deserves a name,” one investigator said. “We believe someone, somewhere, knows who he is.”
How to Submit Information
Anyone who may have information that could help identify “Mr. X” is asked to contact Detective Jill Stulz at the Kenton County Police Department via email at Investigations@KentonCounty.org.
