Kentucky State Police Trooper Injured After Cruiser Hit During Traffic Stop on I-65 in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY — A Kentucky State Police trooper was hospitalized with minor injuries Thursday afternoon after his patrol cruiser was struck by another vehicle along Interstate 65 during a routine traffic stop, officials confirmed.

According to Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 3, Trooper Hany Elibuishi had pulled over a vehicle on the northbound shoulder near mile marker 23 just after 2 p.m. when a passing car collided with his cruiser.

Trooper Treated and Released From Hospital

Trooper Elibuishi was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and later released for non-life-threatening injuries, according to a KSP statement.

The driver of the other vehicle was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Authorities have not released that driver’s identity or the cause of the crash.

“When traveling, always move over when you see a vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway to give them the space they need for safety,” KSP officials reminded motorists in a statement.
“This applies not just to law enforcement, but to all vehicles. We want to ensure that everyone on our roadways remains safe.”

‘Move Over’ Law Reminder

The incident serves as a strong reminder of Kentucky’s “Move Over” law, which requires drivers to change lanes or slow down when approaching stopped emergency vehicles, tow trucks, or maintenance crews on the roadside.

Violations of the law can result in hefty fines or license suspension, especially if an officer or worker is injured in the process.

KSP has repeatedly emphasized the importance of driver awareness during roadside stops, especially along high-traffic stretches of Interstate 65, which has seen multiple similar accidents in recent years.

Kentucky State Police are continuing their investigation into the crash and have not said whether charges will be filed.

This latest incident highlights the ongoing risks law enforcement officers face daily during roadside duties. For continuing updates on regional safety and community news, visit ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
