Kentucky Teen Surrenders After Hours-Long Barricade Standoff Where Shots Were Fired at Deputies
GEORGETOWN, KY — A tense barricade situation in a Georgetown mobile home park ended Sunday afternoon after a teenage suspect surrendered to authorities following hours of negotiations and multiple gunshots fired — including one that struck a deputy’s shield, officials said.
The standoff unfolded at the Sawyier Pointe mobile home park on Laurie Lane, where deputies responded to a disturbance involving a firearm around 8:40 a.m. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office arrived to discover that a young male inside a trailer had already fired one round indoors — followed by a second shot that pierced the home and hit a deputy’s protective shield.
Hours of Negotiations, Tear Gas, and a Barricaded Suspect
Scott County Sheriff Jeremy Nettles said multiple people inside the residence were safely evacuated while the suspect remained barricaded inside alone. Negotiators spent hours trying to persuade him to come out peacefully.
When verbal efforts stalled, deputies deployed tear gas into the home.
Shortly afterward, the teen surrendered without further incident.
Authorities believe the suspect is under 18 years old. His identity has not been released due to his age.
No Injuries Reported, Despite Shots Fired at Law Enforcement
Despite the dangerous situation — including a bullet hitting an officer’s ballistic shield — officials confirmed that no deputies, residents, or bystanders were injured.
Sheriff Nettles praised the coordinated response between Scott County deputies, Georgetown Police, EMS, and fire crews:
“Everyone’s going home safe tonight — that’s the main thing,” Nettles said.
“We worked together as a team.”
Neighbors Describe the Scene as “Too Close to Home”
Residents of the mobile home park said the incident shook their sense of safety.
One neighbor said the chaos of gunfire and police activity left families uneasy:
“It’s too close to home. We’ve got kids here. This is supposed to be a community, and it doesn’t feel like one. It’s just way too close to home.”
Potential Charges Pending; Motive Still Unknown
Authorities have not yet finalized charges, but Nettles said the teen could face:
- Attempted murder
- Wanton endangerment
Investigators are still working to determine what triggered the first gunshot inside the home.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office will release additional details as the case progresses.
