LEXINGTON, Ky. — Nearly 27 years after a deadly fire in Lexington, police are still investigating the death of Linda Rutledge, whose body was discovered inside a burning business on Malibu Drive in November 1998.

According to investigators, police and fire crews were dispatched to 121 Malibu Drive on Nov. 7, 1998, after reports of a building fire. Inside, firefighters discovered Rutledge’s body.

While the incident was initially treated as a fire fatality, evidence later revealed injuries unrelated to the blaze, raising questions about what truly caused her death.

Ongoing Search for Answers

Despite years of investigation, authorities say they are still seeking the real cause of Rutledge’s death. Detectives have continued reviewing evidence and appealing to the public for new information that might finally bring clarity to the long-standing case.

The case remains open under the Lexington Police Department, which is working with Bluegrass Crime Stoppers to encourage community assistance.
