Louisville Police Fatally Shoot Armed Robbery Suspect After Nighttime Chase in Southside Neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — A robbery call in Louisville’s Southside neighborhood ended in deadly gunfire Saturday night after police shot and killed a man they say pulled a handgun while running from officers.

Robbery Call Leads Officers to Armed Suspect

According to Louisville Metro Police Deputy Chief Ryan Bates, officers were dispatched just before 10 p.m. to the 100 block of East Southland Boulevard after a caller reported being robbed at gunpoint.

The victim provided officers with a description of the suspect. Minutes later, patrol units spotted someone matching that description walking near the scene of the robbery.

Suspect Allegedly Produced a Gun While Running

When officers approached, the man reportedly took off running. As officers pursued, Deputy Chief Bates said the suspect pulled out a handgun, prompting two officers to draw their own weapons.

Both officers fired, striking the suspect. EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Bates confirmed that the suspect’s handgun was recovered next to him.

No Officers or Bystanders Injured

Deputy Chief Bates, who declined to take questions from the media on-scene, said no officers or civilians were hurt during the incident.

The shooting took place in a residential area just off Southland Boulevard, sparking questions among neighbors who heard the commotion.

Body-Cam Footage Expected Within 10 Days

Per LMPD policy, the Public Integrity Unit has taken over the investigation.

Officials stated:

  • Body-camera footage will be released within 10 days.
  • Names of the involved officers will be released within 3 days.

Community members often follow these timelines closely, as recent shootings in the Louisville area have intensified scrutiny on police transparency.

Investigation Still Developing

As detectives process evidence and review witness statements, police have not yet released the identity of the deceased suspect.

More updates are expected as LMPD completes its preliminary review and prepares the body-cam release.
