Louisville Police Fatally Shoot Armed Robbery Suspect Who Pulled Gun During Foot Chase in Southside Neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, KY — A late-night police response to a reported armed robbery in Louisville’s Southside neighborhood turned deadly after officers fatally shot a suspect who allegedly fled and pulled out a handgun, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.

The incident unfolded just before 10 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of East Southland Boulevard, where officers were dispatched after receiving a 911 call about an armed robbery. As they arrived, dispatch provided a detailed description of the suspect.

Suspect Pulled Out Handgun Before Officers Opened Fire

LMPD says officers quickly located a person matching the suspect description walking near the scene of the robbery. When officers approached, the suspect reportedly ran and produced a handgun, prompting two officers to fire their weapons.

Paramedics pronounced the suspect dead at the scene.
No officers were injured, and police say a handgun was recovered next to the suspect.

Witnesses Describe Intense Police Response

Residents in the neighborhood described the chaotic scene as officers swarmed the area.

“I saw a lot of police activity,” said neighbor Mary Leach, adding that her children were frightened by the sudden commotion. She said a DoorDash driver mistakenly came to her building moments before the shooting.

“That could have actually been in my building. I’m very lucky it wasn’t,” she said.

Another resident, Teaundez Williams, reflected on how the constant violence has begun affecting normal routines.

“Do I want to go outside and actually keep up my health routine?” he said. “Or do I just want to stick inside and hope it doesn’t hit next to my doorstep?”

Body Camera Footage to Be Released

LMPD confirmed that per department policy:

  • Body-worn camera footage from the involved officers will be released within 10 days.
  • The officers’ names will be released within 72 hours.
  • The department’s Public Integrity Unit is leading the investigation.

The shooting marks another high-profile use-of-force case as the department continues to emphasize transparency and oversight.
