LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — A Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officer shot an armed man early Monday morning in the city’s Newburg neighborhood, leaving both the man and a woman critically injured, officials confirmed.

According to LMPD, officers were dispatched around 2 a.m. to the 5500 block of Ridgecrest Road following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds and encountered a man holding a firearm nearby.

Police: Armed Man Ignored Commands and Raised Gun

Investigators say officers ordered the man to drop his weapon, but he allegedly refused to comply and instead walked toward police, raising the gun in their direction.

An officer then fired at the suspect, striking him. Both the man and the woman were transported to a Louisville hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

Police confirmed that no officers were injured during the incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Investigation and Body Camera Footage

The case has been turned over to LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit, which will conduct a full investigation into the shooting. Officials confirmed that body-worn camera footage from the responding officers will be released within 10 business days, following standard policy.

Residents with information about the incident are encouraged to contact LMPD’s anonymous tip line at (502) 574-LMPD (5673).
