Mahtomedi High School Cancels Homecoming Football Game Amid Armed Suspect Search

MAHTOMEDI, Minn. — A highly anticipated homecoming football game at Mahtomedi High School was canceled Friday night after nearby police activity involving armed suspects prompted safety concerns.
Kidnapping Call Leads to Search
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a call about a kidnapping tied to a robbery around 5 p.m. Friday in the 7300 block of Inwood Way in Grant, located just down the road from Mahtomedi High School.
When deputies arrived, they found three victims unharmed but confirmed that two suspects were still at large.
Suspects Considered Armed and Dangerous
Witnesses described the suspects as two Black males with dreadlocks, dressed in black and brown clothing, and believed to be armed.
Law enforcement advised residents in the area to shelter in place, and school officials announced the cancellation of the game in the interest of public safety. Electronic tickets will be refunded, according to Mahtomedi Public Schools.
FBI Joins Investigation
By Saturday, officials said they no longer believed the suspects were in the immediate area and added they do not think the initial crime was random. The FBI is now assisting the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
Impact on the Team
The Mahtomedi Zephyrs were scheduled to play against the Bloomington Kennedy Eagles. As of now, no decision has been made regarding a makeup game.
The cancellation of the Mahtomedi High School homecoming game underscores the community’s heightened concern as police continue their search for the suspects. For more Minnesota crime and safety updates, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
