Man Arrested After Allegedly Calling in Bomb Threat at Superior Choice Credit Union in Ashland

ASHLAND, WISCONSIN — A bomb threat forced the evacuation of the Superior Choice Credit Union in Ashland on Saturday after a man claimed there was an explosive device inside his safety deposit box, police said.

According to the Ashland Police Department, officers responded after the suspect allegedly called the credit union and made the threat, prompting an immediate evacuation of the building as a precaution.

Bomb Squad Responds to Threat

Authorities requested assistance from the Marathon County Bomb Squad, which arrived on the scene to conduct a full search of the facility. After several hours, investigators determined that no explosive device was found.

“The building was evacuated and thoroughly searched out of an abundance of caution,” Ashland Police said in a statement. “Thankfully, no device was located.”

Suspect in Custody on Multiple Charges

The unnamed suspect was taken into custody shortly after the threat. Police said he faces pending charges of making terrorist threats and bomb scares.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the suspect’s identity or possible motive behind the hoax call.

“These kinds of threats put the public and our first responders at risk,” an Ashland Police spokesperson said. “We take them very seriously and will continue to investigate fully.”
