Miami-Dade Father, 63, Arrested After Whipping Daughter With Electrical Cord for Refusing to Go to Church

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida — A 63-year-old father has been arrested after police say he punched his daughter and whipped her with an electrical cord during a violent altercation sparked by her refusal to attend church.

The suspect, Renel Sanon, faces charges of child abuse without great bodily harm, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime.

Violent Confrontation Over Church Attendance

Police said the incident unfolded Sunday morning around 10:55 a.m. at the family’s Miami-Dade home.

According to the affidavit, Sanon entered his daughter’s bedroom and demanded that she get ready for church. When she refused, he allegedly pulled the covers off her and punched her in the chest several times with a closed fist.

The girl told police she tried to fight back, but Sanon then grabbed an electrical cord and struck her across the upper arm, leaving a visible laceration.

Daughter Calls 911 From Backyard

Authorities said two separate 911 calls were placed: one from Sanon himself and another from his daughter, who dialed from the backyard after being assaulted.

When officers arrived, they found the victim still outside, injured but declining medical treatment. Photographs of her injuries were taken for evidence.

Sanon allegedly admitted that the argument began because he wanted his daughter to attend church, and when she refused, an “altercation ensued.”

Arrest and Court Ruling

Sanon was taken into custody without incident and charged with child abuse.

At a bond hearing Monday, a judge ordered him to have no contact with his daughter and set bond at $2,500.

The disturbing case highlights the dangers of escalating domestic disputes and raises concerns about children’s safety in homes marked by violence. For more Florida crime updates and public safety coverage, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
