Michigan Man Accused of Stalking Teen Girl and Throwing Molotov Cocktails at Her Brighton Township Home, Deputies Say
BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A Michigan man is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say he stalked a minor he met on social media and later drove more than an hour to her neighborhood, where he allegedly threw Molotov cocktails at her family’s home, igniting small fires across the residential block.
Attack Involved Multiple Firebombs, Sheriff Says
The incident unfolded on Nov. 28 around 9:30 p.m. on Burson Drive, where witnesses reported seeing a man hurl incendiary devices toward a home. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office said the Molotov cocktails caused several fires along the street, which neighbors quickly helped extinguish before they spread further.
Authorities recovered five Molotov cocktails from the scene. Surveillance video obtained by WXYZ Detroit reportedly shows “bright bursts of flame” erupting near the home moments before residents rushed in to put out the fires.
Deputies credited the fast response from neighbors with preventing what could have become a catastrophic blaze.
Suspect Identified Through Ongoing Stalking Investigation
Investigators soon determined the attack was directly connected to an active stalking and harassment case involving a juvenile girl whom the suspect had met through social media platforms.
The alleged attacker, 25-year-old Alex Buley-Neumar, lives in Mount Pleasant, roughly 115 miles north of Brighton Township.
“It’s really scary to know that someone drove an hour away just to come throw fireballs at someone’s house,” a resident told WXYZ, reflecting the neighborhood’s shock.
Arrest, Charges, and Potential 44-Year Sentence
With assistance from Mount Pleasant police, deputies arrested Buley-Neumar on Nov. 29.
He has since been charged with:
- Manufacturing or possessing a Molotov cocktail
- Causing property damage
- Aggravated stalking of a minor
- Using a computer to commit a crime
- Accosting a child for immoral purposes
If convicted on all counts, he faces up to 44 years in prison.
Buley-Neumar was arraigned Monday and ordered held on a $1 million cash bond. The sheriff’s office said additional charges are expected, and the defendant is scheduled to appear in court again next week.
Community on Edge After Violent Incident
Brighton Township, located about 45 miles west of Detroit, has been shaken by the targeted attack. Deputies say the motive appears rooted in the suspect’s escalating online harassment of the teenage victim.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that the case highlights the growing risks of digital stalking, which can escalate into real-world violence with little warning.
