Mississippi Heat Wave Brings 90-Degree Temps With Brief Cool-Down Before Rising Again Next Week

JACKSON, Mississippi — Residents across Mississippi are enduring summer-like heat deep into fall, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s this week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Forecasters say a brief cool-down is expected over the weekend, but the heat will return early next week, with temperatures running 5 to 7 degrees above seasonal averages through at least October 9.

Current Heat Wave Across the State

In Jackson, highs are forecast to stay near 90 degrees through midweek before dipping into the 80s Friday and Saturday. Cities including Hattiesburg, Meridian, and Greenville are expected to follow the same pattern, with only temporary relief from the heat.

Overnight lows may bring slightly cooler conditions, but daytime hours will remain hotter than normal across most of Mississippi.

Extended Forecast Into October

The 6–10 day outlook released Tuesday shows much of the Southeast, including Mississippi, locked under above-normal temperatures. The warm weather pattern is expected to stretch into the second week of October, delaying the usual transition to fall.

NWS officials warn that even in early fall, heat-related illnesses remain a concern. They urge residents to:

  • Stay hydrated throughout the day
  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours
  • Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas when possible

Mississippi’s lingering heat wave highlights how unpredictable seasonal shifts have become, with above-average warmth showing no signs of ending soon. For more weather alerts and regional forecasts, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
