Nelson County Deputies Arrest Man After Finding Meth in Unregistered Vehicle During Traffic Stop

NELSON COUNTY, KENTUCKY — A routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust early Sunday morning when Nelson County deputies allegedly found six ounces of methamphetamine inside an unregistered and uninsured car, leading to the arrest of a 33-year-old man.

According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies pulled over David Buckler of Lebanon in the early hours of November 9 after his Saturn sedan’s registration failed to return from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.

K9 Search Leads to Major Discovery

While waiting for Buckler to provide proof of insurance, deputies conducted a K9 “free air sniff” around the vehicle. The trained K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting deputies to search the car and the driver.

During the search, deputies allegedly discovered six ounces of methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia that Buckler appeared to have attempted to hide.

Vehicle Found Unregistered and Uninsured

Investigators determined that Buckler’s car was neither registered nor insured, compounding the charges against him. Deputies arrested Buckler at the scene and transported him to the Nelson County Jail, where he remains held on a $20,000 bond.

He faces charges of:

  • Driving an unregistered vehicle
  • Failure to maintain required insurance
  • Possession of methamphetamine

Ongoing Investigation

Buckler’s pre-trial conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on November 10, while deputies continue investigating whether the methamphetamine was linked to larger drug activity in the area.

Authorities say the stop underscores the importance of routine traffic enforcement and K9-assisted patrols in uncovering criminal activity.
