SCHURZ, Nev. — A 2.8 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Mineral County early Monday morning, shaking communities near Schurz but causing no reported injuries or damage, according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory .

The tremor struck around 2:45 a.m. about 10 kilometers southeast of Schurz, with a depth of approximately 13 kilometers.

“This was a minor earthquake, and while some light shaking may have been felt in nearby towns like Yerington and Hawthorne, no damage was reported,” officials with the Nevada Seismological Laboratory confirmed.

Earthquakes of this size are considered routine in western Nevada, which sits along several active fault lines stretching toward the California border.

While the quake caused no immediate harm, emergency officials are urging residents to revisit earthquake preparedness measures.
