Nicholasville Man Rams Police Cruiser During Domestic Dispute, Arrested After Brief Standoff, Police Say
NICHOLASVILLE, KENTUCKY — A 56-year-old Nicholasville man was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly crashing into a police car during a domestic dispute and briefly causing a nearby high school to secure its campus, according to police.
The Nicholasville Police Department (NPD) said officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Maple Leaf Lane around 10:40 a.m. after receiving a 911 text message reporting a fight at the home.
When officers arrived, the suspect attempted to flee in a vehicle, striking a police cruiser before running back inside the residence.
Nearby School Temporarily Secured
Around the same time, East Jessamine High School briefly went into a “secure the building” mode for about 10 minutes due to what officials described as “a situation in the community.”
School leaders later confirmed that the incident was unrelated to campus safety, and no student activities were affected during the precautionary lockdown.
“None of our student daily operations were impacted during this short period of time,” school officials said in a statement to families.
Standoff Ends Peacefully
Officers surrounded the home and attempted to communicate with the suspect, later identified as Terry Lee Travis. By 11:15 a.m., police said the situation ended peacefully, and Travis was taken into custody without further incident.
Travis is accused of endangering officers during the confrontation and attempting to evade arrest both by vehicle and on foot.
Multiple Charges Filed
According to court records, Terry Lee Travis, 56, faces several serious charges, including:
- Three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer
- Two counts of first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle
- Resisting arrest
- Second-degree fleeing or evading police on foot
- Failure to appear in court
Police added that Travis also had active warrants from other agencies and was wanted for a probation violation.
He is being held pending his court appearance scheduled for November 17 at 8:30 a.m.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities confirmed that the domestic dispute investigation remains active, and additional charges may be filed depending on further evidence.
“We’re grateful the situation ended safely for everyone involved,” said NPD spokesperson Sam Wade, noting that the quick response helped prevent potential injuries.
