NKU Issues Campus Warning After Reports of Stalking and Fondling; Suspect Identified
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY — Northern Kentucky University Police issued a Timely Warning to students and staff Friday after receiving two separate reports of stalking and fondling that occurred on campus earlier in the day.
In an email sent to the university community on November 7, officials said both victims described experiencing repeated unwanted contact and physical touching without consent.
Suspect Identified, Investigation Ongoing
University police confirmed that the suspect has been identified and the matter remains under active investigation. In a follow-up statement to The Northerner, NKU Police Chief John Gaffin emphasized the department’s commitment to transparency and safety, noting that details are limited due to the ongoing investigation.
“Because this remains an active investigation and involves sensitive circumstances, we cannot release further information at this time,” Gaffin said.
University Cites Clery Act Requirements
NKU officials noted that the warning was issued in compliance with the federal Clery Act, which mandates that universities alert campus communities to reported crimes that may pose a continuing threat to public safety.
“The university takes all reports of concerning behavior seriously and remains committed to the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff,” Gaffin stated.
Campus Safety Measures Reinforced
Following the warning, NKU reminded students and faculty to remain aware of their surroundings, report suspicious activity, and use available campus safety resources, including the university escort service and 24-hour emergency call boxes.
The university also encouraged anyone affected by similar incidents to reach out to the Office of Student Conduct, Rights & Advocacy or the Counseling Services Center for confidential support.
