Ohio Doctor Accused of Forcing Crushed Abortion Pills Into Sleeping Girlfriend’s Mouth After Ordering Drugs Under Estranged Wife’s Name

COLUMBUS, OHIO — A 32-year-old Ohio doctor has been indicted on multiple felony charges after authorities say he attempted to force abortion-inducing drugs into the mouth of his pregnant girlfriend while she slept — and illegally obtained the medication using his estranged wife’s identity.

The State Medical Board of Ohio has suspended the doctor’s license, calling the allegations “deeply disturbing” and detailing the sequence of actions that led to the criminal case.

Doctor Allegedly Ordered Abortion Drugs Using Estranged Wife’s Identity

Investigators say Dr. Hassan-James Abbas began a relationship with the victim in late 2024 after separating from his wife. When the woman informed him on Dec. 7, 2024, that she was pregnant, Abbas immediately pressed her to get an abortion. She refused.

The next day, Abbas allegedly ordered mifepristone and misoprostol — the two medications used in medication abortions — but did so using his estranged wife’s:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number

Authorities say the order was placed without her knowledge or consent. Abbas used his own credit card, email, and home address for delivery. The drugs arrived Dec. 11, 2024.

That same day, he also obtained nausea medication for his girlfriend through legitimate prescribing channels. According to the medical board, this step formally created a doctor–patient relationship, deepening the severity of the alleged misconduct.

Victim Awoke to Doctor Allegedly Holding Her Down and Forcing Crushed Pills Into Her Mouth

In the early morning hours of Dec. 18, the woman says she awoke at Abbas’ home to find him “physically on top of her.”
She initially thought he was hugging her — until she realized he was restraining her.

Investigators say Abbas:

  • Held the victim down
  • Forced crushed powder into her mouth, pressing it inside her lower lip and gums
  • Continued restraining her as she struggled to escape

The woman eventually broke free and ran to the kitchen, where she tried calling 911. Abbas allegedly grabbed her phone and hung up. She fled the home and drove herself to the emergency room, where she reported the assault.

Hospital staff notified police and regulatory authorities.

Doctor Later Admitted Ordering the Drugs and Crushing Them, Investigators Say

In a July 2025 interview with medical board staff, Abbas reportedly admitted key aspects of the case:

  • He researched and ordered the abortion drugs after learning of the pregnancy.
  • He used his estranged wife’s personal information to obtain them.
  • He crushed the medication “to help it dissolve faster.”
  • He altered the prescribed administration method using his own medical judgment.

He claimed, however, that the victim had agreed to take the medication — a statement investigators say is contradicted by her physical struggle, 911 attempt, and immediate hospital visit.

Abbas is accused of later discarding the remaining medication by throwing it out of his car window.

Doctor Faces Six Felony Charges

A grand jury indicted Abbas on multiple offenses, including:

  • Abduction
  • Evidence tampering
  • Identity fraud
  • Unlawful distribution of an abortion-inducing drug

He is scheduled for arraignment on Dec. 19.

The State Medical Board noted that the allegations represent both ethical violations and criminal misconduct, saying his conduct “poses an immediate and serious danger to the public.”

As investigators continue reviewing digital evidence, medical records, and witness statements, the case is expected to raise broader questions about medical authority, consent, and abuse of prescription privileges.
