Ohio Man Arrested After Impersonating Officer to Scam Kentucky Woman

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. — Authorities say a 21-year-old Ohio man has been arrested after he allegedly impersonated a police officer in a scheme that targeted a Kentucky woman and left her family shaken.
How the Scam Began
On Sept. 17, the victim was contacted by a man claiming to be a law enforcement officer. He told her she would face criminal charges unless she produced money. While the woman was speaking with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, deputies overheard the suspect on the phone instructing her to go home, wait until she was alone, and expect him to come by.
Suspect Confronted by Family
Later that day, the suspect — identified as Danil Dovzhuk of Loveland, Ohio — showed up at the woman’s home. Her family confronted him, but he fled the scene before police arrived.
Deputies quickly tracked him down at the intersection of U.S. 421 and U.S. 11, where he was stopped and detained. Authorities said his vehicle bore interceptor-style markers, making it look like an unmarked police car.
Money Reported Stolen
As the investigation unfolded, the victim’s son came forward to say Dovzhuk had already taken a substantial amount of money from the family during the scheme.
Dovzhuk now faces charges of theft by deception and impersonating a peace officer.
Suspect in Custody
Officials confirmed that Dovzhuk is being held at the Clay County Detention Center without bond. Clay County is located about three hours south of Louisville.
